According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the Punjab government has decided to reopen all government and private schools on Friday (today) following the conclusion of winter vacations.
Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas said in a tweet on Thursday that all schools that had their winter vacations end on January 6 will now reopen on January 7.
The minister stated that he welcomes all returning teachers and students to the classrooms.
Murad Raas urged teachers and students to follow the SOPs announced by the government in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Punjab government had decided not to extend winter vacations a day earlier, according to the Secretary of Schools Education.
Schools that were closed on December 24, 2021 will remain closed until Friday, January 7, 2022. With the addition of the three-day weekend, schools will officially reopen on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, while students will resume online classes on Monday, January 10, 2022, as was previously practised.
Schools in Punjab that have been closed since January 3 will reopen on January 11 as scheduled.
Previously, the government considered extending winter vacations until January 13 in response to a severe cold wave and an ongoing rainy season spell.
However, the government decided against the proposal because the current spread of Omicron in the country may result in further closures of educational institutes, most likely in February, when the fifth wave of coronavirus in the country is expected to peak, according to NCOC estimates.
